Lucinda Childs' "Calyx", the result of a tri-ccontinental collaboration, will receive its world premiere on the opening night of Lucinda Childs Dance Company's week-long engagement at the Joyce Theater, May 12-17. Lucinda Childs conceived and choreographed the dance; the young Japanese visual artist Tadashi Kawamata designed the environmental set (especially for the Joyce stage); Harry de Wit, Holland's leading "new music" composer, created the score (for prepared piano and body mikes). Besides "Calyx", the opening program includes "Dance #1" (from the evening-lenght "Dance") and "Available Light". The company's second program features "Rise" and "Race" (from Mrs. Childs evening-lenght "Relative Calm") plus "Suite Form" and "Hands" (from another large-scale work, "Portraits in Reflection").
