It also includes letters from “Alex, ” from Cairo, to Thomas Whittemore on November 7, 1940, June 8, 1944, September 9, 1944, and October 10, 1944. Letters refer to Whittemore's “Coptic relief representing the Moon-Goddess on her chariot […], ” “the Arabic sources on the Christian monasteries […], ” “the ornamentation of St. Sophia : [t]he Frieze of Opus Sectile […], ” “three prehistoric pots […], ” and Charles Rufus Morey's “The Mosaics of Hagia Sophia” in the March Bulletin of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Other materials include : a description of the “Fragmentary ivory group belonging to Professor Thomas Whittemore, ” a memorandum to “Professor Thomas Whittemore / c/o Mr. Hooker Dolittle, American legation, Cairo / 20.8.1944, ” and general notes by Whittemore.
